“Eric Church Opens For Himself”
Eric Church Denver Review By Connie
You know it’s going to be a good show when Eric Church “Hi-Fives” you… yes it happened to Connie as he made his way to the stage. The energy was off the chart!
As Eric gathered his thoughts on stage, he was visibly taken back seeing and hearing the roaring sold out crowd at Ball Arena in Denver.
“I’m going to open for myself tonight if you guys don’t mind.”
It was just The Chief, an enormous center stage and four microphone stations for the first seven songs. He made his way around the stage changing microphones for each song which for any big fan, it was like a dream.
Having an artist play those “off the set list” songs and connecting with their audience in an intimate level is a feeling like no other. Eric undoubtedly is a vocalist of great talent and being alone on stage with just his voice and guitar for 30 minutes proved just that.
As Joanna Cotten and the band made their way to join Eric, the place was primed and ready for the high energy performance that would follow. It was like a 2-for-1 show experience. I took my son Derrick and his wife Jamie to the show. This was their first time seeing Eric and Jamie’s first country concert…EVER! They were amazed! Both repeatedly mentioned how he was a ball of passion and performance. They were shocked at how he kept that energy level for the 3 1/2 hour concert! Two new fans and members of the Church Choir were created from his energy.
Eric came down into the audience several times doing shots of Jack with a cancer survivor, signing countless boots and vinyl records. By far one of the best moments was his adorable connection with a young girl he sang to. He gave her the ultimate gift… removing his signature Ray-Bans and placing them over her eyes. She reciprocated giving him her tiny pair and he joyously put them on as they were obviously too small but, he sang on until his road crew replaced them with new ones.
I knew going in that I was in for a good night of music because Michelle and I had just seen Eric at Country Thunder in Florida last month. That 1 1/2 hour performance was amazing, but seeing him on his own tour and the connection with his fans was incredible. Knowing I still have his shows in Knoxville and Orlando makes me even more excited to go to “Church” again!
Our opinion is that just because Kenny isn’t touring—and we miss him dearly—there are so many other artists out there blessing fans with live music. Go and explore any music you can get tickets to. You might just find yourself having new and better musical experiences.
It’s never good to put all your eggs in one basket. Kenny not touring for over two years has been extremely difficult for him and his fans. However, go out and get to know other amazing artists that are out there touring and let the music take you away to a better place!
Miss you all,
Connie
