“Kenny Chesney & The Grammys”
Kenny Chesney receiving a Grammy… It is harder than you think!
Kenny Chesney has had a long standing relationship with the Grammys aka, The American National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The award is given out for achievement in the record industry. We did some digging and this is what we could find… Actually, it started in 2005, where he was nominated for “Best Country Collaboration with Vocals” for “Hey Good Lookin”, a great partnership with Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, Clint Black, Toby Keith, George Strait and our Kenny Chesney. With no win that year, it began an unfortunate trend for our guy.
Winning a Grammy is a rough and hard earned road for many, but for Kenny Chesney even harder, it seems. He has been nominated six times including this year, 2017 with Pink in the category of “Best Country Duo/Performance” for “Setting The World On Fire”. He has been nominated in that same category before, in 2012 with Grace Potter for “You and Tequila”. Even though he did not win in 2012 with Grace The No Shoes Nation is hoping for that win to come this year with Pink. With two more nominations in the category of “Best Country Collaboration with Vocals”… One in 2009 for “Shift Work” with George Strait and the second in 2010 for “Down The Road” with Mac McAally. Even still not taking home that Golden Gramophone either time. All that talent matched up for some amazing songs. Just seems harder that most for Kenny to earn a Grammy.
One thing that seems to stand out in all of this craziness is the fact that all of Kenny’s Grammy nominations have been collaborations, except one for Best Country Song with “American Kids” in 2015 and still no win. For the No Shoes Nation that seems impossible. Just going over the many songs that Kenny has recorded on his own, we can think of dozen’s that Kenny should have been at least nominated for. How about “Young” in 2002 or “There Goes My Life” 2004 , “Anything But Mine” also in 2004. Really? No Nomination? “Come Over” 2012 and “Don’t Blink” 2007… Completely over looked! “Summertime” 2005, “No Shoes No Shirt No Problems” 2002, We are positive we could keep naming song after song. Really haven’t even listed the whole albums that have deserved a nod. “Be As You Are”, “Hemingway’s Whiskey”, “Big Revival”, “Lucky Old Sun”? All of those albums are amazing! Well, ALL of Kenny Chesney’s albums are amazing to us! That really is all that matters is how the “fans” feel! Right?
Here is a little of what Kenny had to say when he found out about his last nomination…
“When I heard the song, I knew it was pretty special,” Kenny continued, speaking of the two-week Country No. 1 and the Top 20 Hot AC – and still rising – single. “But when we got P!NK on there, it was something else. She captures all the emotion, all the joy of being alive, being free and in the moment – and brought everything inside the song to life. I couldn’t be happier this morning, knowing the people who vote for the GRAMMYs heard in that song all the things that I do.” Recorded in Los Angeles, the Josh Osborne/Ross Copperman/Matt Jenkins song – ironically inspired by one of the co-writer’s own first trip to the GRAMMYs – became the second single from Kenny’s unconventional Cosmic Hallelujah. As Kenny said upon releasing the track to radio, “I knew the moment I heard this song, it was exactly the moment of life and love exploding, and everything turning Technicolor. Finding songs that are in the moment are harder, in this kind of moment, it’s almost impossible. And the idea of bringing P!NK in adds to that sense of this song is happening as we sing it. It’s funny how people respond to stuff that feels real and right now.”
Of Kenny Chesney’s 61 released singles, all but four have charted in the top 40 on Billboard Hot Country Songs. 27 have reached #1 on that same chart, with the first being “She’s Got It All” in 1997 and now with “Bar At The End Of The World” approaching the top of the charts to possibly become his next #1. We were hoping and praying that 2017 was Kenny Chesney’s year to bring that coveted Grammy award home. But it has eluded him once again. Maybe next year in 2018 The Grammy Academy will honor this talented musician that the No Shoes Nation already knows is Grammy worthy.
Good Luck Kenny, Connie & Michelle
