“Sean Paddock… Keeps The Beat For Kenny”

Sean Paddock Sean grew up in Watertown, NY.  He always felt, as if the drums chose him, because he loved to play the pots and pans with spoons when just a toddler.  Sean began playing a sparkly blue Sears and Roebuck drum kit, at the age of 4 years old.  He was soon joining his parents, Don and Claudia, both musicians,  in local nightclubs, to play.  By the time he was nine, he was taking drum lessons and was participating in the school band program.  Sean says, “That as a kid, it was somehow important for me to do this.  I’d think that I needed to get home after school and play drums along with the Beatles’ records.” At fourteen, Sean and his family moved to Arizona where he continued with a variety of high school music groups: the marching band, the orchestra and the stage band.  During his high school years, he began his music career playing paid gigs with his father.  After high school, Sean was working as a full-time musician, playing the local music scene in  Phoenix and in northern New York. In 1996, Sean went to Nashville on vacation and heard that Kenny Chesney needed a drummer.  He was able to get the phone number to Kenny’s band leader and called him for an audition.  He landed the job and a week later he was out on the road, touring with Kenny.  He’s been playing for Kenny ever since.  Sean was once asked, “Do you feel like a rock star?”  His reply was “No, you just think about getting better at what you do.  When I get home, I’m still Dad and I take out the trash.” Some of Sean’s early influences were Ringo Starr of the Beatles and Don Brewer of Grand Funk Railroad.  Besides Kenny Chesney, Sean has worked with such rock and country icons as Vince Gill, Sammy Hagar, John Mellencamp, Steve Miller, George Strait, and numerous others. In 2015, he was chosen as Country Drummer of the Year by Drum Magazine. When not on the road, Sean is back in Nashville — doing recording sessions or tracking drums at his home studio.  He lives with his wife, daughter and parakeets.    Thank you LH for being a “Sandbar Contributer” and helping us get to know Sean a little better!
