“Why Mexico? The USVI’s Are Where It’s At”
Just our thoughts on St John and how they need us the most…
Something has been weighing on our minds here in the Sandbar. We’ve seen a lot of No Shoes Nation members visiting Mexico lately and we are curious, why not the USVI’s… particulary the beautiful island of St. John. Kenny sings about the most beautiful islands we have ever been to and we often wonder what would compell a member of the No Shoes Nation to travel to Mexico instead of our own US territories?
With the facts rolling in on the saftey of Mexico to the broken relationship we have with their people and government, we can’t understand why any American would give that country their tourist dollars. The USVI’s are hurting and need our love. Our own people need us to visit, spend money and love the beautiful Americans that live there. The hurricanes certaily disrupted life 0n St. John. But, it is still one of the most beautiful places on earth. We have been to Mexico and many other tropical places but nothing compares to the people, beaches and lifestyle of Love City. Why would we go to Mexico, knowing we have to stay at our resort for safety or be afriad to travel streets because we fear the locals. We feel completly safe traveling all over the island of St. John, where the people are so warm and kind!
Could it be cost? Mexico certainly is inexpensive. St. John is not as expensive as most people perceive it to be… There are local places to stay like the St. John Inn or Cruz Bay Boutique that are $200-$250 a night and within walking distance of almost everything. There are over 20 FREE beaches to walk and enjoy. Connie has been to St. John over 20 times and has yet to hike every trail at the National Park. How about happy hour everywhere? There is no need to stay on St. Thomas either, just catch that ferry boat over and stay on an island that will capture your heart. They need us. We need to be spending our vacations with the people who need and want our love. Make a day trip and charter a boat to the BVI’s and experience all they have to offer too.
Please reconsider that annual trip to Mexico and go and experience the beauty that is St. John. We promise it will be one of the most beautiful places you will ever visit and the best part is… It is a US trerritory. If you ever need any info or suggestions our friend runs an amazing website and facebook page that keeps everyone updated on life on St. John. Jenn runs News of St. John and also does jeep tours. She is in the know for all the info you would need to make that trip to paradise.
Visit her website. Everyone that is advertised on her site is a reputable company that she backs. http://newsofstjohn.com
We just wanted to express how much those little islands mean to us. Ask anyone that has been to St. John and they will tell you they will be back! It captures your soul in a way that nothing else can… except maybe…Kenny Chesney’s music!
Thanks for listening,
Connie and Michelle
